"Working Girl"

“Working Girl”

Yesterday I stopped working on the current quilts that were loaded on our Longarm Machine. Both quilts are destined for “Quilts for Kids” with no time frame to complete. So, I stopped earlier than usual in my daily routine.

I plopped myself in the almighty throne, grabbed the remote and started the search through a myriad of streaming services and channel selections in hope of finding a little entertainment, yet viewed or long since viewed. What came up was an all time fav chick flick. “Working Girl.” With a great script, acting on the part of Weaver, Griffith, Ford, and the illustrious Joan Cusack. Not to mention Alec Baldwin long before his incompetent handling of props.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the time frame of the story and the location. Set in the late 1980’s, in the Second Wave,1963 – 1980’s, of the Feminist Movement as it is referred to frequently as having Four Waves, taking place in New York.  We are apparently in the Forth Wave that began followed the 90’s. Who knew?

Anyway, the opening credits, day and night footage during the movie and during the closing and running of the credits from Gaffer’s to Actors Staffers was a devastating reminder of the event that changed our Republic forever. The Twin Towers loomed over the New York Skyline just as the sun looms over the dawn of a new day. There are few things in the aftermath of that attack, orchestrated by nothing other than evil, sadistic and inhumane class of people, could damage this Republic more. We thought then. For a moment we were all brought together again. With the latest separation being people protesting in the streets, supporting an evil and sinister group of sadistic low life’s and chanting “Death to America” on American soil…the togetherness we had for that moment is most certainly gone. One of our strongest allies is brutally and inhumanely attacked, individuals slaughtered and taken hostage and we have seated elected officials supporting that evil.

It is sad that in many cases our reaction obscures those guilty. Suddenly all of Islam and or those of the Muslim faith were to blame. We have a history of persecution, internment, racial bias, and blaming all for the actions of a few on the many. In this case 19 individuals under the directives of al-Qaeda. As with many of our mistakes, the apologies are shallow. Not all of the Muslim Faith, of Japanese Heritage, Hispanic Immigrants, Irish Immigrants or any other classification, whether ethnic, religious, color of skin or country of origin are to be blamed for the actions of a few. But we were scared. So Turban wearing Sikhs, those that “looked” like a Muslim, easily confused with a darker shade of light skin or a pale shade of dark skin were pointed at and accused when there was no basis for any of these accusations. Like I said, we were scared. This had not happened on American Protected soil since Pearl Harbor. As time passed, we made many changes to our days, the way we travel and how we would forever approach the day with a new caution, and the fear somewhat subsided. For a moment, we never thought we would be that scared again. We were wrong.

Over the last three and a half years, if you have one ounce of basic sense, taken note of what has and is happening at the highest levels of our government…you need to be scared…more than on 9/12/2001 and beyond and one must be prepared now as well as aware of the dangers that have been placed upon our shoulders by incompetence and greed for personal gain and power.  The enemy May not be foreign but domestic. There seems to be some truth to this.

"We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within." Nikita Khrushchev. It appears he knew something we didn't.

Millions of unknowns have flooded our cities from coast to coast. Under the open arms policies of the current administration. Biden and those pulling his strings…for what appears, not much longer, has made our country more vulnerable today than ever before. Remember, and never forget, it took 19 individuals on American soil to carry out 9/11.

Currently, with only an illiterate grouping of progressive left, believe that our most dangerous enemy is China. If so, and not Russia, it is estimated that between 25,000 and 30,000 Chinese nationals have entered our country illegally. Estimated, not know to be fact, 80% are military aged men. So, using our standard as a guide. Brigade, Regiment, Battalion, Company, Platoon, Squad, etc…How many Brigades (+/- 4,400) of military aged men from China now run amok on our soil. I’m gonna go out on a limb here. Five or so brigades is a tad more than19 individual terrorists. Not counting how many from al-Qaeda, ISIS, Taliban (well equipped I might add), or any other American hating group that under the incompetence of the current administration have with little or no effort crossed our borders that on an hourly basis is unprotected.

It was what I would call sobering moments when the Twin Towers were viewed again with awe across the New York skyline as Tess McGill. during the Second Wave of feminism. Mischievously and cleverly clawed her way up in the corporate world of the late 80’s. Yet again Joan Cusack adapting to character regardless of the demands. Her list of accomplished roles is a long list, but neither Working Girl, In & Out or Rosalie Mullins in School of Rock would be as memorable. Without her, watching Working Girl would be like watching Lethal Weapon Sequels, Goodfellas or My Cousin Vinny without Joe Pesci.

Never Forget.
